Together Forever...
I'm sorry it's been a while since I last provided an update. This platform has been a crucial communication tool during tough times (and maybe I psychologically associated it with trauma), but it's just as important to use it to share good news as well...and we've had a LOT of that recently!!
The Final Mile
Two weeks ago, Corrina had her routine MRI. The length between these check ins are increasing now as Corrina puts the C-word way behind her into life's rearview mirror (still zero signs of tumor regression). It had been almost a year since Corrina visited the Smilow Cancer Center and as much as we love Dr. V and Joy, we're happy that our visits are gaining less frequency.
This War Has Many Battles
To alleviate any concerns, Corrina's surgery was a resounding success by her doctors' standards.
Summer days & warm nights
It's been awhile since David's post so I thought I would update you on what's happening. We celebrated Corrina's birthday this past Thursday seated at a table for eight in the Farmington Avenue parking lot at Barcelona. It was a lovely evening honoring Corrina's birthday with our family. Our first venture dining out with the extended family since the pandemic.
The Post We've all Prayed For
It is with the most ecstatic joy that I am able to post the following update to our community of loved ones:
CORRINA IS IN FULL REMISSION! SHE HAS BEAT THE MOST AGGRESSIVE FORM OF MALIGNANT BRAIN CANCER!
California, At Last...
As I write this, Corrina and I sit outside on a gorgeous poolside deck overlooking the sprawling, beautiful hills of San Diego. It’s a perfect 65 degrees out, the sun is shining, and it feels like we don’t have a care in the world. A year ago, I never thought we’d have the opportunity to be in California together - Corrina’s doctor made it sound like long travel was not ever going to be an option. Corrina was still vulnerable to blood clots and sitting for long periods of time was problematic for patients in her state, so we put the idea out of consideration.
Road trip to Boston… a new hair day
I cannot recall how many times Corrina and I have taken road trips to Boston to see our favorite hair stylist, Samantha Drake. We met Samantha many years ago at West Hartford Yoga and this friendship continues on years and miles later.
Never, Ever Give Up
Whenever Corrina goes in for her quarterly MRI’s, we all hold our breath not knowing what the results will be. Glioblastoma is an aggressive force. It’s not uncommon for most glioblastoma tumors to double in size from one MRI to the next.
But not Corrina’s. Yesterday, the news could not have been better. Corrina’s tumor has shrunk by 75%!!!!!!
GRATITUDE
Today, Thanksgiving, Corrina & David are in their new home giving them more space & bathrooms for their family of four. No more waiting in line to use the one and only bathroom at Fennbrook Road. There are still many more boxes to unpack and find a place to put their stuff (aka precious items). They are settling in and transforming this house into their home.
Seasons changing & Corrina thriving
Corrina and I are NOT looking forward to another New England winter but we are looking forward to what the future holds. On a rainy Wednesday, we traveled to Westport (thank you, Barbara Lampugnale, for sharing your beautiful home) to spend time with Corrina's restorative yoga teacher/mentor from Santa Barbara, Cheri Clampett Borda, for a loving, healing yoga session.
New Beginnings
In my last journal entry August 3 I expressed the desire to return to see Corrina ‘to see what she got up to next.’ So for our visit in early September I arrived expecting great things and thankfully was not disappointed. I was joined by my wife Christine who was seeing Corrina for the first time after Corrina’s diagnosis; we couldn’t have come at a more promising time!
Big Sister
My son Dylan is not much of a social media guy and the details of Corrina's situation often make him sad so he has stayed away from this site. However, when he did get the details of the latest MRI he sent a very nice message to his sister which both he and Corrina decided to share here. I am very proud to be related to both of these loving people.
The New Normal - Acceptance and Gratitude!
This is the post I have dreamed about writing. It is my ecstatic joy and honor to report that Corrina's tumor is shrinking!!!
Miracles do happen.
Dog Days of Summer
We've been enjoying summer - even those days that were hot, steamy and sticky. Corrina continues to set the bar higher and higher each and every day. A few days ago, Corrina said "this isn't it" for her, which continues to echo in my mind. I must remind myself on a daily basis (sometimes minute by minute) to stay in the present. It's so easy to wander off into the past and the future and miss out on what's happening in the moment.
A Good Visit
When I left last June after my visit I was not really happy with Corrina’s situation. All kinds of complications from the November infection and surgery just didn’t seem to be resolving. Corrina as usual was upbeat and fine. I was a mess.
Our Unstoppable Birthday Girl!
The world became a much better place on this day back in 1977. Happy Birthday babe!
Summer is for Swimming & Spritzers
Corrina hasn't been in the hospital for over 4 months now! Woohoo!! We're enjoying the beautiful weather and have been taking advantage of any and every opportunity to get outside. Corrina usually has twice-daily walks (morning and afternoon, split up with a healthy midday nap...ah the life) and now that she has graduated from the Live Strong Program at the Wheeler YMCA, we have more time to take in the sunshine.
Father's Day Wish
An update on Corrina's status. I was able to spend 11 days with her at the beginning of this month. She had just finished Round 5 of chemotherapy very successfully, with limited nausea, when another couple of infections started, one at the original biopsy site. As usual, Corrina has endured this latest threat to her health with strength and courage.
