Five Weeks Out of the Hospital!

While Claudia and David have been resolute in keeping this blog alive the task actually requires a lot more commitment than it would appear. Hopefully, as Corrina’s dad, I can contribute a little to the narrative.

I have just returned home after spending 10 days with Corrina, David and Claudia. What a truly remarkable team.

Corrina is currently working hard to recover from a massive and devastating hemorrhage in her brain secondary to an unfortunate infection and underlying brain tumor. These events caused her serious physical setbacks. Both the mobility in her right side and her ability to speak have been significantly compromised.

The path to her recovery is a true labor of love and involves considerable teamwork. Corrina goes to Mt Sinai Rehabilitation facility in Hartford three times a week for each of physical, occupational and speech therapy. On her days off she has to do her ‘homework’ which, of course, she does with diligence.

During the time I was there her speech improved pretty dramatically and I expect this to continue. And, as the hemorrhage dissolves, mobility in her right side should return as well.

Her resiliency, determination, strength and coping are amazing to behold. But more significant is her strength of spirit. She remains cheerful and positive in the face of every obstacle. I honestly cannot express how heartbreaking it is but also how inspirational she is to all of us who are lucky enough to witness her progress.

She has a tremendous support system including Claudia and David but also all the friends who have shown up in so many ways to help. Thank you to all of you who have sent messages and helped with nourishment and tasks. Corrina is not receiving visitors right now but she will soon! She is a beacon of love and light that we can all follow. I love you Corrina.
