We most definitely "seize the day" each and every day. Corrina's sunshine maker and laughter machine, David Iscove, was away for a week on both business and pleasure. Even though I live less than two miles from Corrina and David's home, I packed my bags and moved in with Corrina. Grateful my husband, Steve, is self-sufficient and also our sherpa for anything we need regardless of the time of day or night.
I thought you might enjoy knowing what our days entail when David is away from home or not. When David is not traveling, he is either working in NYC or his satellite office at Spaces which has taken over the old REI. Besides the demands of his job, David is the best dad ever to the twins, Grover and Mazzy, who are with David and Corrina every other weekend from Thursday afternoon to Sunday late afternoon.
I will take you on the road with Corrina and me.
Mondays and Wednesdays we travel to Mt. Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital for Corrina's 1:1 personal training session with Bud Gouveia where he has Corrina doing a variety of functional movements enhancing her balance, strength and conditioning. During these 60 minute sessions, Corrina is laughing, smiling, grimacing and pushing herself each and every moment. Bud was the athletic director at Avon Old Farms and also the Hartford Whalers. He has been with St. Francis for 25+ years and we're lucky to have made this connection.
Tuesday and Thursday mornings, we are on the road to the Plainville YMCA for the 90 minute LiveStrong program for cancer survivors. Corrina is one of twelve and the youngest in the group that will meet over the next 12 weeks. Regardless of the age differences there is camaraderie given everyone in the group has one commonality - their diagnoses. Two women in the group were Corrina's students at WHY. It's a small world when it comes to the yoga connection.
Every Friday, we're back in the car traveling once again to the Plainville YMCA for 1:1 personal training sessions with Ben Romann. Ben ignites a spark in Corrina and has her challenging balance and strength during their 60 minute sessions. Ben is not scheduled to work Fridays and makes a special trip once a week for Corrina. That's called commitment for a man who has a young family and could easily have a million other things to do on a Friday morning.
It's easy to figure out that my primary goal for Corrina is to keep her moving each and every day. When we're home, we go for walks in her neighborhood or Elizabeth Park. David is more adventuresome and has taken Corrina to the Farmington Avenue Reservoir, the bike trail in Collinsville or the lovely sidewalks in Old Wethersfield. Also, there are physical therapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture, cranial sacral and massage professionals from the WHY community who are volunteering their time and energy caring for Corrina.
I am referred to as Corrina's master scheduler. If it weren't for all of these amazing and dedicated professionals, I would have nothing to do ;-0 Thanks to all of you for loving and caring for Corrina.
To reiterate the title of this post - CARPE DIEM.
Sending all of you a huge hug from Corrina and Claudia.
