Day 15 - The Inbetweeners

Corrina and I traveled to New Haven early this morning for a second opinion at Yale/Smilow Cancer Center. It was an incredibly long day from the drive in the car, to the time spent at the hospital, to the drive back home.

The "inbetweeners" of this day are difficult to articulate. Reflecting on the minutes that comprised this entire day brings me front and center on my yoga mat. My days prior to September 18th at 9:30 p.m. were focused on getting from one place to the next and for the most part missing out on what was happening inbetween the getting to and from.

The inbetweeners today were the people who helped Corrina and I from the time we pulled up to the valet and began to navigate our way through the maze of Smilow Cancer Center.

A young woman with a bright smile assisted us up the elevator to the 8th floor clinic waiting room. After the appointment, a patient aide on the 8th floor brought us to the 12th floor where we met our nurse Angel, Darcy Garland. Darcy is a 2016 WHY TT alum, a student of Corrina's, and my hero. She had posted her willingness to help Corrina with anything. When I realized we were going for second opinion at Yale, I contacted Darcy to see if she would be there that day. She was but her work day didn't start until 3:00p.m. I asked if there was some way she could arrange a quiet space for Corrina to relax inbetween appointments. Not only did Darcy find us a private room; she picked up carryout from Corrina and David's favorite restaurant, Meccah Noodle Bar. I was given the opportunity to leave Corrina in the private room for a nap, while Darcy and I shed lots of tears over our lunches.

I'm crying right now thinking about how difficult today would have been for me and Corrina if it weren't for Darcy spreading her wings and tucking us both under them. Darcy led us back to the 8th floor for the afternoon appointment, met us once again when the appointment was over, and led us down to the first floor where we waited for the valet to bring my car back around for the ride home to West Hartford.

Darcy, you're my big time inbetweener who pulled all of the pieces together for me and Corrina. Without you we would most certainly have become unglued today.

Big love to you.

Claudia & Corrina

P.S. Dylan arrived this evening and we're all happy he's back on the East Coast and will be spending time with his big sister.
